Swim Meets: Family Responsibilities
Thank you for being a part of our team! Meets cannot function without family participation, therefore it is essential that each family fills the necessary roles to keep things running smoothly.
Here are descriptions for swim meet shifts. Note that some positions require RSL training. Information on RSL training can be found under the Resources Tab.
***Jobs with a (*) are required for both home and away meets
Announcer: Make Announcements required by RSL throughout the swim meet, typically seated at a table. We will give you a script.
*Timer: Use a stop watch/timing button and record times for swimmers in a specific lane for each race, either events 1-34 or events 35-68.
*Ribbons: Place labels on ribbons at the end of the meet so they may be dispersed to swimmers the following day. Can be done at the pool during practice!
Concessions: Help sell refreshments at the concessions table located on the basketball court near the pool.
Heat Winner Ribbons: Watch each race and give a ribbon to the person who was first in each heat.
Runner: Be available throughout the session to collect time sheets and bring to the scoring table.
Safety Marshall: Watch over warm ups in addition to team coaches. Ensure RSL safety measures are followed during team warmups. Ensure that while practicing strokes all entries are made feet first into the water. Ensure that no dives or backstroke starts will be allowed during warmups. When starts are being practiced, ensure that all starts are made from the block or the wall at the start end and competitors swim one length and exit the pool at the opposite end from which they started. Check the bathrooms approx. every 30 minutes to monitor for safe behavior.
Assistant Clerk of Course: Assist the RSL trained Clerk of Course.
RSL TRAINED POSITIONS:
NOTE: all returning families should have at least 1 family member complete 1 RSL training
Clerk of Course: Stage swimmers based on the meet program in correct, event, heat and lane. Direct or take swimmers behind the starting blocks to wait for their event to begin.
Head Timer: Oversee a timers meeting at the beginning of the meet to coordinate timers. Run two extra stop watches for each race and disperse to other times if needed.
Starter: Announce and initiate heats to keep the meet moving under the direction of the Referee
*Scorekeeper: Enter score data to record and calculate meet results
*Stroke and Turn: Observe races for legality of strokes and make judgment calls.
*Referee: Oversee and manage the meet.
